Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS)

With a total of 123 tribal students, the foundation of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences had been laid in 1993. Since then, the institution has grown into the largest fully free and fully residential institute for the children of indigenous origin. Currently, the humanitarian institution sustains 25,000 children from 62 indigenous communities of Odisha.

These children are provided with free holistic education, vocational training, food, accommodation, health care, and other basic necessities. Over the next decade, the institution intends to educate 2,00,000 indigenous children, and has planned to set up its branches in ten more states, with support from the respective state governments, and the thirty districts of Odisha.

A number of prestigious international organisations such as UNESCO, UNICEF, UNFPA, as well as the US Federal Government have associated themselves with KISS for several initiatives and programmes that have been undertaken by the institute. With relentless dedication, KISS is determined to alleviate poverty by educating the poorest of the poor, and raise the educational standard, in order to sculpt a brighter future for the indigenous students it harbours.
